Impact method
Method v1.0
The factors, sources and assumptions used for every report that names this version.
ActiveApplies to reports released from 1 July 2026.
Seed values — our assumption, to be replaced by the impact method source file.
Rules and assumptions
- Weights
- Verified kg when a carrier or weighbridge docket exists; otherwise quantity × the midpoint of the item profile's kg range (estimated).
- Material split
- Each item profile splits its kg into up to nine materials (item_composition).
- Residue rule
- Recycled wood (particleboard, timber) or mixed material with no recycler data (not weighbridge-verified): 15% moves to landfill.
- Category 5
- Scope 3 Category 5 (waste generated in operations) = landfill emissions of material actually landfilled, including residue. Reuse and recycling count as 0 under the recycled-content cut-off approach.
- If landfilled
- All material × its landfill factor: what Category 5 would have been had everything gone to landfill.
- Avoided emissions
- Reused material × reuse factor + recycled material (after residue) × recycling factor. Estimated, shown separately, never added to or subtracted from Category 5.
- Recovery rate
- (kg total − kg landfilled, including residue) ÷ kg total.
- Social impact
- Community organisations that received items (confirmed or delivered claims) and the number of items reused through them.
- Rounding
- kg to 0.01, kg CO2-e to 0.1, recovery rate to 0.1%; tonnes shown to 2 decimals.
- Factor status
- v1.0 factor values are our assumption, chosen to be plausible and to reproduce the ZR-2026-0001 worked example; they must be replaced by the impact method source file.
